Introduction

It is a martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel developed on the basis of grade 630 (17-4PH). Precipitation strengthening is achieved by adding alloying elements such as copper (Cu) and niobium (Nb), combining high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good processability. This material is widely used in aerospace, marine engineering, chemical equipment, medical devices and other fields. Its main advantage lies in the combination of high strength and good toughness, making it an ideal choice for dynamic load components such as aircraft structural parts. At the same time, its corrosion resistance is significantly superior to conventional martensitic stainless steels, and its properties can be flexibly adjusted by aging heat treatment at 480–620°C. The disadvantages of this material include relatively high alloy cost (containing elements such as Nb and Cu) and strict requirements for welding procedures; improper processing can easily lead to property degradation. Overall, 0Cr15Ni5Cu4Nb occupies an important position in high-end industrial fields due to its comprehensive properties, but its potential can only be fully exerted through optimized processing and welding techniques.

Applications

In the aerospace field, this material is mainly used to manufacture key load-bearing components of aircraft, such as landing gear assemblies, engine fasteners, missile casings and spacecraft structural parts. In marine engineering and shipbuilding, it is commonly used for marine propulsion system components, submarine pressure hull structures, key connectors of offshore oil platforms, as well as various valves and pump bodies for marine environments. In the petrochemical industry, it is mainly applied to key equipment in highly corrosive environments, such as valves, pump shafts, flanges and pipeline connectors in oil and gas extraction systems. In the nuclear industry, relying on its good radiation resistance and high-temperature stability, this material is used to manufacture key components such as nuclear reactor fasteners and control rod drive mechanisms. In addition, 0Cr15Ni5Cu4Nb is also widely used in military equipment manufacturing, precision machining and high-end medical devices, including surgical instruments and orthopedic implants.
